How do we help
Ndoto is a sustainable self-supporting project that consists of 5 essential elements and brings value to society in several ways:
- Primary school with an international curriculum and education in English empowers our students
- Agriculture and sustainability practical lessons teaches kids life skills much needed in the area
- Farm provides fresh high-quality groceries for our students to enjoy a balanced menu
- Volunteers enrich the study curriculum with lessons on culture and foreign languages
- Biochar sales support school operations financially
- Biochar being eco-friendly promotes the corresponding values in the society
- Biochar being a healthier and cheaper option than traditional charcoal helps society
- Official employment by all elements of the project ensures workplace safety
- Salaries being higher than average in the area support our employees and give us the chance to hire the best
- People all around the world have a chance to support our project one way or another through our foundation, and feel better ^_^
Why is it important?
- Population and Literacy
- Total population of Tanzania is 59.7 mln people
- 50% of the population is younger than 20 y.o.
- Only 58-69% of population over 14 y.o. is literate
- Families and Education
- Each family has on average 5-6 kids
- 30-39% of kids 7-14 y.o. don't go to school and work instead
- Schools
- Public schools have 100-200 students in one classroom
- Primary education in Kiswahili
- Around 60 percent of all teachers are underqualified
- Teacher to student ratio is 1:51 (as of 2018)
- Textbook to student ratio is 1:10 (as of 2018)
- Private schools fees start at 100$ per month which is not feasible for the majority of families
- Agriculture
- about 45% of lands in Tanzania are used for agricultural purposes
- Schools are not providing any training or education on the subject
